A key European Commission official today urged the United States to return to negotiations over a proposed anti-counterfeiting trade agreement. Luc Devigne, head of the Commission's intellectual property unit, told a U.S. Chamber of Commerce transnational summit that the parties should try to finish the pact within a "few months" or a year, at the latest, and avoid allowing the talks to drag on "for too long a time." The United States, the European Union, Canada, Japan, Mexico and a handful of others have been working on the pact for more than a year, but their efforts have stalled under the Obama administration. A meeting scheduled last month in Morocco was postponed and has not been rescheduled.
