Many have attempted to tackle the critical question of how to define the size and scope of intellectual property theft and its impact on the U. S. economy. Fortunately, the Commission on the Theft of American Intellectual Property, spearheaded by Governor Jon Huntsman and Admiral Dennis Blair, has taken on this important task and released their findings earlier today. We commend Admiral Blair and Ambassador Huntsman for their leadership of the Commission, and for their steadfast effort to highlight the growing “hemorrhage” of intellectual property (IP) theft.

This week, Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and the House Judiciary Intellectual Property subcommittee will begin what is likely to be a multi-year review of U.S. copyright law. As a leading voice in the business community, the Chamber welcomes the discussion regarding the value intellectual property has added both in economic terms with high paying jobs, and for consumers by providing access to amazing new innovations from the creative industry.

The often unseen value of intellectual property (IP) was heralded at the Chamber’s IP Champions conference and awards today. Hosted by the Global Intellectual Property Center, the event honored creators, innovators, and protectors, celebrating IP and, at the same time, questioning its future.

Sometimes learning life lessons can be hard, as independent video game developer Greenhart Games recently found out. Greenhart decided to release a doctored version of its “Game Dev Tycoon” to pirate sites at the same time the original hit the stores. The gist of the game is to have players fulfill their fantasies of becoming game developers themselves, chockfull of all the trials and tribulations of business development.
