BLOG POST: Fake Drugs Can Kill


The dangers of counterfeit drugs continue to grow, and garner more attention. In case you missed it, Dan Rather recently conducted a video report, “Counterfeit Prescription Drugs a Growing Threat,” from Nigeria—the most populous country in Africa with 150 million people. With these health challenges, Nigeria is in high demand for pharmaceuticals for chronic diseases such as malaria, cholera, or infections, and this makes them a hotspot for the practice of counterfeit drugs.  In his investigation, Rather followed local government officials conducting random spot tests of medicines in commercial pharmacies for authenticity.  Needless to say, their discoveries are daunting. He also brought back undercover footage of “sting” operations that caught organized criminal networks smuggling fake pharmaceuticals into Africa.  Read more….
