Chamber Applauds Senate Action To Move Forward with Illegal Web Streaming Bill

Earlier today, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S. 978, which aims to amend the criminal penalty provision for copyright infringement and make illegal streaming of copyrighted content a felony. As we saw with ICE’s Operation In Our Sites in February, streaming sites are also an enormous problem. The GIPC applauds the dedication of Senators Klobuchar, Cornyn, and Coons—the cosponsors of S. 978—in recognizing the increasing importance of closing another method of criminals to profit off the work of artists, creators, and the hard-working Americans employed in these sectors. We look forward to working with the Congress to enact this important legislation.
