Imagine a world where almost every great movie and television show you want to enjoy is available for your viewing pleasure through legal, affordable and high-quality video-on-demand (VOD) services. According to a recent report by KPMG, you don’t have to imagine such a world, you are living in one!
The report shows that in the U.S., 94% of the most popular and critically acclaimed films from 2012 are available through a variety of VOD services such as Amazon Prime, Hulu, iTunes, Netflix and others. In addition, every single Academy Award winning Best Picture, all 85 of them, are available, along with virtually all (96%) of the American Film Institute’s (AFI) top 100 films of all time – not to mention 85% of the most popular TV shows from 2010 through 2012.
The study puts the lie to those who have complained, sometimes loudly, that the only reason consumers turn to illegal online sites to get their film fix or TV time is the dearth of movies and TV shows offered to viewers legally. The report analyzed 808 film titles from over 34 major online, video-on-demand services and found that 94% were available on at least one online service, and over 80% were on at least 10 VOD service platforms.
In addition, fully 100% of the top 20 films from 2000 to 2012 were available and 100% of the top independent films from 2011-2013. The study shows that even films that were still playing in theaters, a whopping 77% in 2013, were easily accessed by consumers using VOD services. If you run out of films to view or simply want to catch-up on some classic TV shows, you can order-up one of the 96% of pre-2011 modern TV hits, or select from 96% of the top TV shows from 2012 and 87% from 2013.
While you can debate when the golden age of Hollywood or TV occurred, you can’t debate that consumers are living in the golden age of access to movies and TV!
Entertainment companies are continuing to develop new and exciting services that deliver high-quality movies and TV shows to consumers in an affordable, convenient and secure manner. With all the legal options available to consumers, why take the risk of going to sketchy online sites that offer lower quality experiences and the very real threat of having your personal information stolen or malicious malware downloaded to your electronic devices?
So stock up on the popcorn, put your feet up and start browsing through the more than 100 legitimate services available in the U.S. to bring the best entertainment experience to the viewing device and location of your choosing. Imagine that!
