U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center Announces 2016 IP Champions
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC) hosted the 4th annual 2016 IP Champions to showcase the economic and cultural impact of intellectual property (IP). The event brought together a wide array of industries to celebrate the creators of jobs, innovation, safety, and access.
“Whether it’s the newest life-saving medical cures, the latest action-packed blockbuster movie or the must-have holiday toy, intellectual property is essential to the innovation that drives our economy and enriches our lives,” said David Hirschmann, president and CEO of GIPC, noting that IP-intensive industries directly employ over 45 million American workers and drive over $6 trillion worth of total U.S. GDP. “Championing innovation and creativity is an agenda we can all get behind – here in Washington and in capitals around the globe.”
James Rosen of Fox News Channel emceed the event with headliners including U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch, songwriter and former Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath, Billy Idol guitarist and artist Billy Morrison, award-winning producer Bruce Cohen and award-winning actor Richard Kind. McGrath and Morrison shared insights into the challenges facing musicians and artists today in an onstage discussion and closed out the evening with an exclusive performance.
