Who We Are

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce established the Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC) in 2007. Today, the GIPC is leading a worldwide effort to champion intellectual property rights as vital to creating jobs, saving lives, advancing global economic growth, and generating breakthrough solutions to global challenges.

OUR BELIEF

In the 21st century, innovation and creativity remain the driving forces behind America’s competitiveness and economic future. According to our recent study, IP Creates Jobs for America, the GIPC has found that IP-intensive industries employ more than 55 million Americans and account for 74% of exports and $5.8 trillion in GDP. We cannot thrive without strong protection of intellectual property (IP) rights, which incentivize new and improved innovation and creation, encourage investment and commercialization, and help advance the spread of knowledge globally.

OUR GOALS

The GIPC is leading efforts to promote innovation and creativity globally by advocating for strong IP rights and norms. This endeavor begins in Washington, D.C., and extends to countries and multilateral fora around the world. Through a wide variety of programs, initiatives, and activities, the GIPC works to achieve the following goals:

  • Raise awareness and increase support among key audiences for the value of strong IP rights as a driver of innovation and creativity.
  • Promote and defend robust and effective IP rights and norms in the United States, key countries, and multilateral fora.
  • Strengthen the protection and enforcement of IP in the United States and abroad, especially regarding Internet-based IP theft.
